Will Hansen (he/him) is a Masters student in History at VUW, and a trustee of Te Pūranga Takatāpui o Aotearoa, the Lesbian and Gay Archives of NZ. His MA thesis explores trans politics in Aotearoa during the 1970s and 80s. He's non-binary and queer as anything, very excitable, and generally most excited about the possibilities of using Aotearoa's queer history to help forge intergenerational queer solidarity.
Rainbow crossings and Pride Parades signal queer progress. But Will Hansen argues Aotearoa still has a long way to go for queer folk to feel safe.
