Sinead Overbye (Te Whānau a Kai, Ngāti Porou) is our Kaiwāwāhi Kaupapa Māori - Kaupapa Māori Editor. She is a Libra sun with a Cancer Moon and Aries rising. Her background is in art history, Māori history, creative writing and educational research. Her work has been published with Starling, Sport, Turbine Kapohau, RNZ and other places.

Loose Canons - Sinead Overbye

Talia Smith is an artist and curator who was born in Ngāmotu, Aotearoa, spent her adult years in Tāmaki Makaurau and now lives in Sydney, Australia, on the land of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. Her practice looks at notions of time, memory, familial histories and the reclamation of the colonial tool of the camera, and she has a particular research focus on time-based practices. She has curated exhibitions with large and small organisations, such as the Ballarat International Foto Biennale, Artbank, Cement Fondu, Artspace Sydney and the Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane. In 2022 she curated the show The Salt of the Earth for the Singapore International Photography Festival. She has been the chair of Runway Journal, is an advisor for the Australian Research Council project Parallel, run by Salote Tawale and Veronica Tello, and is a participant in the Australia Council for the Arts international curators’ programme for 2022/23. Talia completed a curatorial residency in 2020 with Basis Frankfurt and has written for publications such as Art New Zealand, Running Dog, Art Collector and for various artists’ catalogues. She is also a member of the Sydney MeMo Review board of writers. She completed her Master of Fine Arts (research) at UNSW Sydney in 2021 and is currently the Curator at Granville Centre Art Gallery.
