Emmy Rākete (Ngāpuhi) is a communist and community organiser based in Tāmaki Makaurau. She is the press spokesperson for People Against Prisons Aotearoa, a prison abolitionist organisation fighting to drag the boot off of the proletariat's throat. She works as a professional teaching fellow lecturing at the University of Auckland, where she is also a PhD candidate. Her doctoral research draws on New Zealand history and contemporary Marxist political economy to explain the role of mass incarceration in capitalist economies. Emmy became a mother in 2021.
